Between 30% and 40% of hospitalised patients take antibiotics during their stay. The Optimisation of the Use of Antibiotics Programme (PROA) implemented in the Institut Català de la Salut (ICS) (Catalan Health Institute) hospitals is based on the use of a Business Intelligence software that allows the antibiotics administered to be monitored and, subsequently, enables evaluation as to whether these medications are being used optimally.
The Optimisation of the Use of Antibiotics Programme (PROA) implemented in the Institut Català de la Salut (ICS) hospitals is based on the use of a Business Intelligence software that analyses the use of antibiotics in hospitalised patients in real time and helps to adjust treatments. The system immediately shows which antibiotics are being administered and for how many days. The data is analysed together with the patient’s clinical data and the Microbiology Service in order to optimise use. The main beneficiaries of this improvement are patients themselves, whose treatment is adapted in relation to their state of health.
